why are the people most vocal about social issue...
there is nothing wrong about having an opinion, but why are they so much more vocal than the people whose lives those issues actually affect? it just makes me roll my eyes over how these guys try to show they’re so ~progressive~ or something. what would we do without them posting links and commentary to facebook? meanwhile i try to post interesting quality articles that aren’t always...

lady-xanthine asked: I realise this was a while ago but I've seen you suggesting about getting the GED to avoid high school if it's really that bad. This isn't everyone's situation, but by the time I'm old enough to get mine (which I do plan on doing) I'll only have my senior year left, so it's not really helping all that much. But I am getting out! And to everyone else who's...

can we end the debate over the origin of the word... →
I guess it doesn’t mean anything because the dictionary has men working on it. “Wif” in Old English meant woman, not wife. So woman means “woman + human being”. But I guess the word woman still has man in it. :(

Unless you are a POC who happens to be Jewish. And if Gatsby did turn out to have roots in the Saxon area of Europe, that would make him very much white, most likely.

Why do people care more about dumb but honest...
I’m actually not condemning anyone over not caring about the Bangladesh factory collapse of May 2013 that killed over 1000 people but tumblr needs to stop pretending that it has its priorities straight. In good faith, I’m going to say that I have not seen one post of outrage over Gap and their practices. Here on tumblr douchey comments from a guy in a scurrilous industry is a...

And girl/girl just isn't popular with men in general, be it mainstream porn or any fandoms,...

Loaded language on RationalWiki →
Here’s a pretty good list of words I don’t like being used by either Sjers or people against them. We can all use a little less of these words in our language. Obviously, some of the words here are only pejorative in some contexts, but I hope people catch the gist of this list. Using words like these in a pejorative way contribute absolutely nothing to the discussion.

what's all the stupid drama over dress codes?
apparently revealing outfits for women are objectifying and sexist but if you deny the right for girls to wear them at high school you’re sexist too. apparently not wanting to see a girl’s underwear in a school setting is like shoving a burqa on her.  I don’t know, it does seem intuitive to me personally that you fight against the sexualization of women by wearing sexualizing...

aminoasinine asked: I think maybe this whole issue could be resolved if people wouldn't try to act like fandoms are such serious business that they have to bring social issues into it. Nobody has any perspective anymore and suddenly having opinions about fiction is exactly the same thing as - if not elevated above - having opinions about things that actually occur in reality.

memoriescantwait asked: Ok but is "slash" as a "culture" really that awful, or is it just that some slash fans - usually teen girls who are confused about their own sexualities - write bad, sexist, fetishizing slash? Because I used to think that but when I started reading it I found overall, those qualities are far less common than people say. And re: it being about white men, I think the blame there...

memoriescantwait asked: The "slash is problematic!" thing bothers me because in some of the fandoms I'm in, what I've mostly seen is that it emboldens people who are exclusively into heterosexual romance to think they're more "feminist" than people who like slash, and to get really self-righteous about the fact that they're grossed out by buttsex, and call everyone who is into...
